A brief history
The site is currently being used as a retail gas station with an automotive repair shop. Soil impact was initially observed onsite in 2002 due to a gasoline line leak that occurred in 2000. Groundwater impact was also confirmed onsite in 2002.
Proposed Remediation Plan
The current development remediation includes the injection of persulfate into the groundwater to enhance the anaerobic bioremediation of the petroleum related constituents of concern. Persulfate is activated by heat, alkaline agent, or transition metals. Once activated, sulfate radicals are released which are highly reactive and capable of oxidizing organic contaminants. The oxidation process helps to convert hydrocarbon compounds from the gasoline-related contaminants into simpler, more biodegradable chemicals.
